Tens of thousands of butterflies can be found spectacularly fluttering around among the rape blossoms in the 1,090,000㎡ greens of Hampyeong. It is considered to be the world’s first environmentally –friendly festival using live butterflies, insects and nature.

The festival provides a variety of novel programs that leave visitors with great memories of environmentally –friendly nature, including an ecology hall of live butterflies, surprising events of flying butterflies, exhibitions of butterfly and insect sculptures, creating memorable moments with butterflies, an experience hall for catching loaches, and an experience hall for demonstrating traditional herding.

In one ecology hall of butterflies and insects, 60 butterfly species inhabiting Korea are on display showing caterpillars turning into pupa and butterflies, along with the transformations of other insects from larvae into imago.

As Korea’s representative environmentally –friendly and the world’s first festival to be annually held in May in Hampyeong under the theme of live butterflies, insects and nature, tens of thousands of butterflies, fluttering around flower gardens with rape blossoms and ground pink, create a spectacular view in the greens, along with extraordinary events providing opportunities to experience the beauty an value of an ecology.

A variety of ecological experience programs, environmentally –friendly agricultural experience programs and traditional plays are provided throughout the festival along with diverse exhibitions and cultural art programs.
